PAMOLA: The Penobscot Indians believed that a spirit, called Pamola resided, during the summer season, on the top of Katahdin — “the greatest of mountains”. Read this 1866 version of the legend written by Brother Eugene Vetromile who worked for 25 years on a dictionary of the Abenaki language.
